Teen Vaping: What You Need to Know
Even though e-cigarettes have been around for a while now, vaping has only now surged in popularity over the past few years, particularly among teenagers and adolescent users. Vaping has surpassed the use of out-dated combustible cigarettes thanks to the available array of vaping gadgets and portable dry herb vaporizers all of which are easily accessible in an array of shapes, designs, and colors.
What exactly is vaping?
Vaping refers to the process of inhaling and exhaling vapor created by the heated nicotine liquid, which is commonly referred to as the juice, of an electronic cigarette, portable dry herb vaporizers, or vape pens.
Vaping was originally created as a means of helping smokers reduce their smoking. However, over the years, it has completely taken over traditional smoking especially among young users and teens. Vaping is appealing to teens because vapes are designed with sleek designs and they are very easy to use and conceal, which many teens find appealing.
What you need to know about teen vaping
How it works
Vaping devices that are known by many names including e-cigs, tank systems, vapes, vape pens, juuls, and portable dry herb vaporizers are all outfitted with 4 primary components. These components consist of:
- A cartridge or tank that is used to hold the vape sauce of e-liquid/juice.
- An atomizer, which is the heating element responsible for burning the liquid or dry herb.
- A battery to power the gadget.
- A mouthpiece that is used for inhaling the vapor produced.
When a person inhales from the mouthpiece, a sensor detects the act which then triggers the battery to power the atomizer. The heat produced by the atomizer is the transferred to the juice or e-liquid, which absorbs the heat until it is vaporized. Once vaporized, the user inhaled from the mouthpiece.
How do vape devices look like?
As vaping has become more popular among teen users, so has the number of brands and designs available. There is a wide array of vaping devices, each with unique designs. Some are designed to appear like regular cigarettes and pipes while others are designed to be slender and easy to conceal such as USB sticks.
The point is, today’s vape devices have changed in designed so what might appear like a regular object such as a guitar pick may actually turn out to be a fully functioning vape. Devices that contain larger cartridges and tanks may also not be shaped like tobacco products and may be designed to appear more like everyday objects such as cell phones instead.
