Benefits of a Closed-Loop Extraction
There are multiple extraction methods to make cannabis extractions. People use this method to contain the flames in a way that keeps everything safe and contaminant-free. Here are some of the benefits of a closed-loop extraction.
What is a Closed-Loop Extraction?
A closed-loop extraction is developed through a chemical extraction system to make cannabis concentrates. In this process, the raw cannabis plant coats in pressurized solvents, which exposes them to high pressured blasts to reduce the resin to process the concentrate. The concentrates consist of live resin (containing the most active terpenes) and butane hash oil (processes further into budder, wax, and shatter).
The closed-loop extraction system closes off air from the solvent during the extraction process, which differs from an open-loop method. You typically see a closed-loop system in perfumes, beauty products, food additives, and essential oils. Studies found it to be a safer method of blasting. Fewer explosions and flammable solvents result from closed-loop extractions.
Also, no openings allow you to contain the solvents safely.
Benefits of Closed-Loop Extraction
Safer Extraction Method
Most extraction methods have gas leaking out and other things that could cause explosions in your lab. A closed process can contain the gases to mitigate the risks of leakage.
You essentially create a seal that keeps the gas from escaping to air vents, which would cause an explosion. Regardless, it’s best to have proper ventilation and to do things with care.
More Affordable
Whether you’re getting cannabis concentrate or making a beauty product, closed-loop extraction allows you to start on a smaller scale. It’s one of the most cost-effective and accessible procedures available. Since chemical solvents don’t escape, you can use this system over and over.
It’s the more economical choice because you don’t have to keep buying solvent to reproduce the process. You keep the solvent in one spot to go back to it again and still reuse it at a later date.
Easier to Set Up
Other extraction methods require a well-ventilated room and protection masks to prevent you from inhaling the product. A closed-loop extraction needs the extractor and a vacuum pump. You don’t have to go through a hassle to find the perfect room to begin your cannabis extraction setup.
In a closed system, you have more efficiency and safety to help you do your extracting. Use this method to save money and resources to create your products.
