Does CBD Vape Juice Get You High?
What Is CBD Vape Juice?
CBD vape juice goes by numerous other names including CBD vape oil, CBD e-liquid, and CBD e-juice. It simply refers to an e-juice that’s formulated with CBD alongside the common vape juice ingredients like Propylene Glycol, and Vegetable Glycerin.
For the uninitiated, CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol, and is the most popular extract obtained from the cannabis plant.
Medical experts recommend CBD for the treatment of conditions that are mostly symptomized by pain, anxiety, inflammation, insomnia, etc.
So, if you’ve yet to join in on the CBD craze, you’re definitely missing out on a lot.
Why Vape CBD E-juice Juice?
There are six basic ways to consume CBD, including;
- Sublingual administration – Dripping CBD tinctures underneath your tongue and then swallowing
- Swallowing CBD-infused capsules, tablets, and pills
- Eating CBD-infused edibles, such as gummies, baked goods, chocolates, and beverage drinks
- Topical application of CBD-enriched beauty and skincare products
- Vaping CBD e-juice and concentrates
- Smoking cannabis buds or hemp flower
Many seasoned CBD users prefer vaping CBD E-liquid and understandably so.
First and foremost, vaping CBD e-liquid is a safer alternative to smoking cannabis buds and hemp flowers. In fact, vaping has always been touted as a safer and cheaper alternative to cigarette smoking and is an excellent way to go smoke free. It’s important to note, however, that vaping CBD e-juice is not 100 percent safe. However, it’s more than 90 percent safer and more effective compared to smoking cannabis extracts.
Another major reason for vaping CBD e-liquid is that vaping takes CBD straight to your system. When you vape CBD e-juice (or any other vape juice for that matter), the vapor inhaled enters your lungs directly. From there, it goes straight to your bloodstream. That’s in sharp contrast to consuming cannabidiol through edibles or pills, where the CBD product needs to be digested thoroughly before it can be absorbed in your body. As that happens, the product’s effectiveness reduces.
One major advantage of the fast-acting nature of vaping is that it’s effective against severe medical conditions. For instance, if you’re suffering from excruciating pain, it would be illogical to consume CBD through a delivery method that takes a while to kick in. By vaping CBD, you’d only need a few minutes for cannabidiol in the e-juice to enter your body and begin working on the pain.
The final advantage of vaping CBD is that it’s associated with a higher bioavailability. Basically, bioavailability refers to the amount of CBD that actually enters your system, relative to the strength of CBD in a product. For instance, assume you’ve purchased two different CBD products; a CBD vape juice and a CBD-infused gummy. Now, assume that each of these products has the same concentration of cannabidiol, say, 25 mg.
Typically, not all CBD gets into your bloodstream, regardless of the method of administration. However, when you vape a CBD e-liquid, up to 20 mg of the 25 mg may enter your system, as opposed to just about 10 mg when you chew the gummies. A higher bioavailability improves the effectiveness of cannabidiol in your system. It also reflects positively on your wallet since you’ll require smaller doses to manage a condition that would need higher doses if you’re consuming cannabidiol by another means.
So, Does CBD Vape Juice Make You High?
The perfect answer to this question is ‘it depends.’ On its own, cannabidiol doesn’t cause feelings of euphoria, famously known as ‘the high.’ In fact, CBD receives more reference as a medicinal extract as opposed to a therapeutic substance. The main compound in cannabis that causes euphoria is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Why doesn’t CBD cause a high?
All cannabinoids interact with your body by impacting the functions of your endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is one of the systems within the body that plays a significant role in boosting your immunity. It regulates sensations of pain, anxiety, insomnia, etc.
After detecting the presence of a medical abnormality, the endocannabinoid system communicates with the brain through a complex cell-signaling mechanism, which affects how your body responds to the condition. To function properly, the endocannabinoid system relies on a series of endogenous cannabinoids and endocannabinoid receptors. The cell-signaling processes take place more effectively, depending on how your endogenous cannabinoids bind to your endocannabinoid receptors.
When you vape CBD e-juice, you’re literally ramping up the levels of your body’s cannabinoids, resulting in more effective cell-signaling. Just like your endogenous cannabinoids, CBD binds to your endocannabinoid receptors. However, it only binds to CB2 receptors that are found in nerves on your peripheral organs.
On the other hand, THC binds to CB1 receptors that are located on the nerves in your brain and central nervous system. As CB1 receptors are expressed nearest to your brain, binding to these receptors has direct mind-altering effects. That explains why THC causes euphoria, whereas CBD does not.
But there are exceptions…
Vaping CBD e-juice may not make you high if the vape juice contains CBD as the only cannabinoid or is formulated with other non-psychoactive cannabinoids. However, it will surely make you high if the CBD e-liquid contains psychotropic compounds like THC. That underscores the importance of reading the ingredients list thoroughly as one of the precautions when buying any CBD vape oil.
Usually, you’ll come across CBD products labeled ‘isolates’, ‘broad-spectrum CBD,’ or ‘full-spectrum CBD.’ CBD isolates refer to vape juices that are formulated with CBD as the only cannabinoid, whereas broad-spectrum CBD are products that contain CBD and other cannabinoids, except for the psychoactive THC. Lastly, full-spectrum CBD is vape juice products that contain CBD, THC, and other compounds.
If you’re new to vaping and only interested in the therapeutic benefits of cannabidiol, your best bet is to go for CBD isolates or broad-spectrum CBD. But if you’re already a seasoned vaper and can deal effectively with the euphoria, then ahead and vape a full-spectrum CBD e-juice.
However, if you must go for full-spectrum CBD vape juice, insist on oils with minimal concentrations of THC. Most importantly, the THC strength in the product should be within legally acceptable levels. For instance, in the U.S, full-spectrum CBD vape oils are only legal if they contain a THC concentration of 0.3 percent or less.
A CBD vape juice will not make you high if the juice doesn’t contain the mind-altering THC. To be sure, read the ingredients before purchasing any CBD vape oil.
